Thermal Cycling, Aging and Environment Tests
Most materials and components used in cryogenic application are exposed to a large number of cooling and heating cycles during their service life. To investigate behaviour and material characteristics after repeated temperature changes between deep cryogenic and up to 200 °C various test setups are in operation in our laboratory. Environmental and thermal aging tests are also available.
Cycling is often followed by other test campaigns for example an examination of mechanic properties on e.g. our universal testing machine. Below you find a summary of our test setups. You cannot find the exact test method you are looking for or your requirements differ from the specifications listed? Please feel free to contact us. We are constantly adapting our test methods to new requirements and will be happy to find a solution to your testing challenge.

TC1
Thermal Chamber 1
The TC1 thermal chamber offers the advantage of relatively fast cycle times while also being capable of reaching temperatures below −180 °C. This makes it well-suited for applications requiring rapid and extremely low-temperature testing for high number of cycles (>1000).
Temperature: -180°C to +150°| Available envelope: 700 x 500 x 530 mm³
Cycle times of 16 Minutes (-180°C to +120°C) can be achieved.*
*This depends on the sample and dwell times (examples are with “touch and go”).

TC3
Thermal Chamber 3
The TC3 thermal chamber offers the advantage of achieving extremely fast cycle times due to its unique design. This provides significant time and cost savings for life cycle tests with very high cycle counts (>10.000).
Temperature: -150°C to > +150° | Available envelope: 440 x 610 x 480 mm³
Cycle times of around 8 Minutes (-120°C to +120°C) can be achieved.*

CC1
Climate Chamber 1
A climate chamber such as the CC1 is typically used to simulate controlled environmental conditions for testing the performance, durability, and reliability of materials and components. It can reproduce high humidity levels of up to 95% relative humidity as well as temperatures up to 90 °C, enabling accelerated aging and stress testing under extreme conditions. This makes it particularly useful for validating product behavior in harsh or variable climates.
Temperature: +10 °C bis > +90 °C | | Available envelope: 580 x 450 x 750 mm³
Relative humidity: up to 95%

Helium Lift

Cryoshock
The facility consists of a lift cable hoist above a fan heater unit, which is mounted on a dewar filled with liquid nitrogen or helium, depending on the required temperatures. The samples are mounted in a cage which can be lowered in the coolant or raised in the fan heater unit to cycle the temperature. By submerging the specimen in liquid nitrogen or helium a cryogenic shock can be induced.

Thermocycles
Especially in comparison to thermal cycling in vacuum chambers steep thermal gradients can be achieved. Depending on the heat capacity of the samples and temperature requirements up to 20 cycles/hour can be performed.

Application
Samples are enclosed in a cage with a diameter of 150 mm and can be stacked in a rack. Depending on the geometry, samples with a length of at least 450 mm and a weight up to 3 kg can be tested.
The cage offers slots for four temperature sensors.
